Artists Statement:
In her installations, oil paintings, and animations, Helena Detsch deals with the (mis)relation and interdependence between humans in our society and nature as well as non-human beings. Growing up in the countryside with animals, she developed a close connection to non-human nature at an early age. As an artist who sometimes collaborates with activists and advocates for sustainable development, she questions the profit-oriented view of nature in the Western world where she lives.
Her works often visualize invisible connections between individual daily habits and their impact on the environment. In her large-scale paintings, a variety of objects, waste, and animal body masses form accumulations that resemble abstract landscapes. These initially colorful structures reveal themselves as relics of mass production upon closer inspection. Helena's artistic practice.
